What is Tru°Nørth?
Born from a life shaped by both challenges and growth, Tru°North is more than just a name — it’s a mindset. A reminder that through all of life’s twists, turns, highs, and lows, there is always a direction worth following — your own.
From early struggles with identity and confidence, to navigating the complexities of adulthood, fatherhood, and career change, I found my sense of purpose through photography. It became my compass — a creative outlet where I could process, express, and reconnect with who I truly am. Photography is where I feel grounded. It’s where the world slows down and every frame becomes a chance to capture meaning, emotion, and presence.
Today, Tru°North represents that journey — helping others find their creative voice and define their identity through bold, cinematic imagery. Whether you're a model, brand, or creator, I’m here to help you capture your story with authenticity, passion, and purpose.
Because finding your Tru°North isn’t just about direction — it’s about becoming who you were meant to be.

“Creativity is the compass that guides us to limitless possibilities, in a world were you can choose to be anything? I choose to be limitless.”
- Dean Black
Who is Dean Black?
Born in the historic town of Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland in 1990, destined for a journey painted in vibrant strokes of creativity.
I’m Dean — a photographer, storyteller, and creative who walked away from the safety net of a corporate 9–5 to build something of my own. For years, I followed the traditional path — climbing ladders, hitting targets, doing what was expected. But the truth is, it never felt like mine. It felt like I was trading my time, identity, and passion for a paycheque.
Everything changed when I became a father. I realised I didn’t just want to build a career — I wanted to build a life. One with freedom, purpose, and presence. I wanted my son to grow up seeing his dad do something he loved. Something that meant something.
That vision became Tru°North — a creative space built from my own experiences, lessons, and the twists and turns of life. Photography became more than just a craft, it became a form of expression, a way to capture moments that matter, and a way to connect with others on a deeper level.
Now, I use my camera to tell real stories — cinematic, honest, unapologetically human. I work with creators, brands, and individuals who want to be seen for who they really are. And I do it all while staying grounded in what matters most: my family, my freedom, and the direction I choose for myself.
This isn’t just a business…it’s a belief. That you don’t have to settle. That you can rewrite your story. And that no matter what life throws at you, there’s always a way to find your Tru°North.
