What is Tru°Nørth?

Born from a life shaped by both challenges and growth, Tru°North is more than just a name — it’s a mindset. A reminder that through all of life’s twists, turns, highs, and lows, there is always a direction worth following — your own.

From early struggles with identity and confidence, to navigating the complexities of adulthood, fatherhood, and career change, I found my sense of purpose through photography. It became my compass — a creative outlet where I could process, express, and reconnect with who I truly am. Photography is where I feel grounded. It’s where the world slows down and every frame becomes a chance to capture meaning, emotion, and presence.

Today, Tru°North represents that journey — helping others find their creative voice and define their identity through bold, cinematic imagery. Whether you're a model, brand, or creator, I’m here to help you capture your story with authenticity, passion, and purpose.

Because finding your Tru°North isn’t just about direction — it’s about becoming who you were meant to be.

01 · The role

I build the world around the brief.

I’m Dean Black, the founder, photographer and creative producer behind Tru°Nørth Studios. My job starts before the first frame. I shape the treatment, casting, locations, crew, equipment and creative rhythm so every decision serves the same campaign idea.

Photography and film are planned as one connected production, giving brand teams a coherent library for campaign, website, social, launch and long-form use.

One point of creative ownership. One complete visual system.

05 · Why Tru°Nørth

A direction that became a body of work.

Tru°Nørth began with a decision to stop following the expected path and build something with genuine purpose. Becoming a father sharpened that direction: make work I believe in, stay present for what matters, and show that a creative life can be built deliberately.

That belief still shapes every production. I care about how a campaign feels in the room, how people are treated, and whether the finished work deserves attention after launch.

The work should feel ambitious. The process should feel clear.

Who is Dean Black?

A man wearing a cap and casual clothes is standing on a grassy path in a field, holding a camera and taking photos. Overcast sky and utility poles are visible in the background.

Born in the historic town of Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland in 1990, destined for a journey painted in vibrant strokes of creativity.

I’m Dean — a photographer, storyteller, and creative who walked away from the safety net of a corporate 9–5 to build something of my own. For years, I followed the traditional path — climbing ladders, hitting targets, doing what was expected. But the truth is, it never felt like mine. It felt like I was trading my time, identity, and passion for a paycheque.

Everything changed when I became a father. I realised I didn’t just want to build a career — I wanted to build a life. One with freedom, purpose, and presence. I wanted my son to grow up seeing his dad do something he loved. Something that meant something.

That vision became Tru°North — a creative space built from my own experiences, lessons, and the twists and turns of life. Photography became more than just a craft, it became a form of expression, a way to capture moments that matter, and a way to connect with others on a deeper level.

Now, I use my camera to tell real stories — cinematic, honest, unapologetically human. I work with creators, brands, and individuals who want to be seen for who they really are. And I do it all while staying grounded in what matters most: my family, my freedom, and the direction I choose for myself.

This isn’t just a business…it’s a belief. That you don’t have to settle. That you can rewrite your story. And that no matter what life throws at you, there’s always a way to find your Tru°North.
